A powerful player in our vineyard, we craft wines with this varietal in a style that is softer in tannin, fruit-forward, approachable, and generally more subtle than the usual big reds.
The least known of the five "noble" Bordeaux reds, Petit Verdot is traditionally a grape reserved for blending, but in 2005 we decided to experiment with a 100% varietal wine that went on to win Double Gold at the California State Fair. Ever since, it has held its place in our offering.
Our terroir is particularly suited for Merlot and brings out a splendid expression for single varietal wines or blends.
A classic Bordeaux blend of estate-grown Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petit Verdot where Hopland's California soil and sunshine pushes the dark red fruit characteristics to the forefront. All three grapes are used in generous portions to allow the pleasurable nuances each to clearly shine through.
